The University of California, Riverside and SafeAbroad announce a new partnership to enhance student safety abroad with innovative safety solutions.
UC Riverside is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its community while its members travel abroad. This new partnership offers peace of mind to students, faculty, and guardians, and reinforces the university's efforts to fulfill its commitment to safety, student success, and academic excellence for its international programs.
SafeAbroad is an award-winning travel safety and risk management firm that delivers daily global risk bulletins to the Education Abroad team, providing safety guidance and anticipatory, early-warning intelligence in countries where UC Riverside operates.
"With the information I receive, I can send them timely updates not just about the country they are in but also surrounding countries that they could potentially travel to,” said LaSharon McLean Perez, assistant director of Education Abroad at UC Riverside.
In April, SafeAbroad and UCR Education Abroad delivered a joint pre-departure presentation to equip students with vital safety tips and country-specific information to prepare them to travel confidently and safely.
The partnership provides UC Riverside with SafeAbroad's real-time global risk monitoring, intelligence reports, crisis simulation workshops, pre-departure training, and advisories that will assist the Education Abroad office in facilitating safe, secure travel abroad.
Many UC Riverside students have directly benefited from the SafeAbroad partnership. One UC Riverside student remarked how SafeAbroad helped her travel confidently during her first time traveling overseas. “Everything SafeAbroad provided was super helpful, especially because this was the first time I traveled without my parents.”
When another student learned of persistent airline strikes in their host country, they adjusted their itinerary based on this information. “It was nice to see someone was looking out for us!”
"Safety is at the very core of everything we do here at SafeAbroad," Operations Manager Allison Mahr expressed. “This partnership will enhance the University of California, Riverside’s international risk management apparatus and ensure all duty of care requirements are fulfilled, providing families and administrators assurance and confidence when sending students abroad.”
