Summer 2024
Arcos Learning Abroad
Elizabeth Quezada, an education major, participated in the Arcos Learning Abroad summer program in Granada, Spain. During her time abroad, Elizabeth immersed herself in the city's rich history and culture, discovering a world beyond her expectations and unlocking new possibilities for her professional future.
Elizabeth enjoyed exploring the city’s storied architecture in Granada and learning about its historical significance. “My favorite memory was learning about the architecture and history of the buildings in Granada as well as meeting new people.” These experiences deepened her appreciation for the value of cultural exchange and ignited a passion for uncovering new ways of learning. As she navigated the streets of Granada, she developed a keen sense of adaptability, mastering new routes and immersing herself in the local environment. “One skill I learned is being able to learn new ways on how to navigate through the town I was in. I spent most of my days walking in different routes and being able to familiarize myself with the streets and places.” Her time abroad also fostered her ability to balance staying connected with loved ones while embracing the independence of life in a different country.
Elizabeth’s time in Granada reshaped her post-graduation plans. She now envisions taking a gap year to explore the world further or pursuing a master’s degree abroad. The possibility of teaching English in Europe or Asia excites her as she reflects on the connections she built and the stories she shared with others during her time abroad. Her experience taught her that education doesn’t just happen in classrooms. It’s a lifelong journey that thrives in diverse settings.
