Message to Deans, Faculty and Staff re: ICE announcement, July 7, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

As you may know, guidance was released yesterday from the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) about temporary procedures related to international students taking online courses for Fall 2020.

The impact of this announcement is not yet clear for our campus, based on the way we are planning to move forward for the Fall. There are too many questions and not enough answers about how we, as a campus, are obligated to proceed. Our office is also waiting for additional guidance from SEVP and possible changes from the government, specifically regarding how we need to manage student records during this temporary period.

It may take some time to get clarification; however, once we have a definitive answer, we will communicate the new changes to the campus community.

Together with our colleagues in the University of California system and with educators across the U.S., we in International Affairs are actively advocating for changes through our professional networks and congressional representation.

Thank you for continuing to advocate for international students and scholars at UCR. Your support is greatly appreciated.

We will send updates when we know more details, but in the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.

Our email list is limited, so please share this message with faculty and staff in your college or school.

Sincerely,

Marko Princevac, Interim Vice Provost of International Affairs
Michael Schmelzle, Director of International Students and Scholars
Kelly Eldridge Hinosawa, Associate Director of International Students and Scholars
