Opportunities Abroad Program (OAP)

Opportunities Abroad Programs (OAP)

Get creative and experience the world with programs outside UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) or UCR Faculty Led Education Abroad Program (FLEAP). You have the option of enjoying unparalleled flexibility with other Opportunities Abroad Program (OAP) for both academic courses and internships.

Some things to keep in mind:

We are here to help you navigate the process and make the most out of your experience.
  • When going abroad with OAP, you are required to contact an Education Abroad Advisor to make sure the process goes smoothly.

  • You must attend a General Information Session and an OAP Application Workshop.

Make sure you do your research ahead of time so you know:
  • Application and program requirements like GPA, foreign language proficiency, course prerequisites, and class standing (Freshman, Sophomore, Graduate student, etc.).

    • As a current or transfer UCR student, you will still need to complete paperwork through UCR.

  • Application deadlines

Costs
  • These include program fees (tuition, excursions and activities, accident, medical, and travel insurance, as well as orientation and advising) and personal expenses (round trip airfare, housing and meals, local transportation, and incidental costs).

  • You are still eligible for financial aid while on OAP.

  • Reach out to the financial aid office to learn about your options.

Credits

You’ll need to work with UCR to transfer OAP credits and have your experience count toward your degree or major requirements. This is called Course Articulation and it takes time and coordination.

Course Articulation may delay graduation date. Because of this reason, we recommend students go abroad with OAP in their Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years. Seniors, particularly in their last semester, should plan their options carefully and are required to discuss them with both their Academic and Education Abroad Advisor to avoid any surprises.
